Crimes of War Education Project

Founded by award-winning war correspondents, the Crimes of War Project is an international non-profit organization dedicated to promoting an understanding of the laws of war. Our mission, to mobilize and inform the public, relies on an effective program to educate the journalists and opinion leaders who serve the public. To that end, we have produced a unique set of tools to assist journalists in their reporting of conflict and war crimes. „X Crimes of War: What the Public Should Know is an A-Z guide on war and the laws governing it. This guide arms journalists, leaders, and informed members of the public with the necessary knowledge to understand and report on conflict and the laws of war. It has been translated into 11 languages, including Arabic. „X Online Journal ¡V www.crimesofwar.org: Our web articles ¡V written be leading journalists and legal experts - provide up-to-date information on issues of war and the law. „X Specialized Trainings for Journalists on International Humanitarian Law: Drawing on our expertise in journalism and international law, we conduct training workshops to help journalists report on war crimes, asymmetric warfare, and war crimes trials more effectively to their publics.

Training Mission:
A basic understanding of the legal principles that apply in armed conflict and that form the basis of war crimes trials is an essential tool for journalists working in these areas. Drawing on our expertise in journalism and international law, the Crimes of War Project conducts training workshops to help journalists report on war crimes and war crimes trials more effectively. The workshops are based around a specially developed training module and are conducted according to the principle underlying all our work: to introduce the main points of the laws of armed conflict through specific incidents or situations that individuals working in conflict zones are likely to encounter. Our educational programs can be tailored to the specific requirements of the journalists involved ¡V ranging from a general introduction to the law, to workshops concentrating on particular issues such as covering terrorism or war crimes trials.
