Investigative Reporters and Editors

Investigative Reporters and Editors, Inc., founded in 1975, is a nonprofit organization providing education, resources and support to journalists. IRE, with a membership of 5,000, offers cutting-edge training and publications about all facets of investigative journalism, a vast Internet accessible resource center and many networking opportunities. IRE offers major conferences, five-day CAR Boot Camps and in-house training sessions for news organizations.

Training Mission:
IRE and NICAR takes training sessions on the road nearly every week of the year. Some sessions are regional workshops that draw from several states or a city, some are seminars for a single newsroom. The sessions range from one to five days and may cover computer-assisted techniques, traditional beat reporting or specific reporting and editing issues. IRE and NICAR trainers work with organizations to create custom programs for newsrooms. Some journalism organizations prefer to ask IRE and NICAR to hold training sessions during larger regional or national conferences. Trainers work to provide the programs that suit each organization best.
