CNA's role as an advocate in public policy is to enable newspapers from coast to coast to speak with a unified voice in promoting newspaper interests to governments, regulators and the general public. These interests include such issues as freedom of the press, telecommunications, taxation, employment standards, postal affairs, environmental matters such as recycling, freedom of information, privacy, copyright, access to the judicial system, electoral laws and defamation.
CNA's Public Affairs Committee ensures that CNA is properly represented and positioned to access and understand its position on any issue arising from government initiatives or legal cases. It is made up of representatives of the Board of Directors. It draws upon resources provided by the Legal Resources Subcommittee, which is made up of media lawyers and others with advocacy interests from across the country.
