Center For Communication

The Center for Communication is an independent media forum, launched in 1980 by former CBS president Dr. Frank Stanton and Museum of Television & Radio president, the late Dr. Robert Batscha, to bridge the gap between the communications industry and the schools. The Center, supported by the industry, is nonprofit and nonpartisan. Our Mission: The Center exposes young people to the issues, the ethics, the people, and the creative product that define the media business. We offer students interested in media careers a unique opportunity to learn about the world of communications. We are completely dedicated to preparing tomorrow's media professionals for future careers by connecting college and university students to the most dynamic and successful people from all fields of the industry for an insider's perspective on the communications business. The Center picks up where academia leaves off by allowing students to experience the inner workings of the business firsthand. Our seminars and workshops, which attract a wide and diverse student audience, feature industry leaders, are presented at media companies, in the schools, and at various venues throughout New York City. Programs: Each year the Center for Communication offers over 55 seminars, covering all fields of communications, to motivate, inspire and advise students on all aspects of this multi-faceted industry. All of our programs are presented free to students and professors. Program attendees represent more than 200 colleges and universities throughout the tri-state area and beyond. We also offer a high school program, job fairs, internships, media mentors, and an informative Website. www.cencom.org allows students everywhere to tap into the seminars via audio-streaming and transcripts. The site also contains current job listings at hundreds of media companies, valuable career tips and strategies from movers and shakers in the business, links to thousands of media companies and organizations, and seminar listings and bios of our speakers. Access to the Industry: The Center's 23-year track record, as well as our unique access to outstanding executives and creative people, allows us to provide, on an ongoing basis, the most current information on the rapidly-changing media landscape available today. This exposure dramatically increases student's awareness of the enormous variety of career options and opportunities. This inside information, unavailable in the classroom, enables students to choose the right courses to help them achieve their goals, plan career strategies while still in school, and network with the decision-makers. Supporters and Speakers: In addition to lending their voices, numerous industry leaders support the Center for Communication through their generous contributions and sponsorships which make it possible for us to present speakers, such as former Vice President Al Gore, Sir Howard Stringer, Charlie Rose, Dan Rather, Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw, Tina Brown, Oliver Stone, Ken Auletta, Diane Sawyer, Mike Wallace, Milton Glaser, Donny Deutsch, Mike Figgis, Chris Matthews, Chuck D, Katie Couric, Ester Dyson, Bill Cosby, and thousands of others. We warmly welcome your participation during our fall 2003 season as another distinguished roster of industry leaders joins with us to better prepare and educate the next generation of media leaders. Our fall seminar listings will be posted soon.
