Knight New Media Center

The Knight New Media offers competitive fellowships to journalists who are making the transition to New Media Journalism and to New Media journalists who want to expand their understanding of timely issues for coverage online and beyond. Week-long boot camps in multimedia skills for traditional journalists are conducted at the University of California Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. Short, intense seminars on timely topics and professional standards that are critical to the quality of online and multimedia journalism are conducted at the Annenberg School for Communications at the University of Southern California. The Knight New Media Center is a partnership of the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and the University of California at Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. The program is funded by a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Training Mission:
Competitive fellowships provide instruction, lodging and meals and a $300 stipend for travel. Fellows at UC Berkeley Multimedia Training Bootcamps must be traditional journalists in transition to New Media. They spend a week in hands-on use of hardware and software critical to multimedia journalism as well as learn story telling techniques. Fellows at the USC Annenberg Professional Development program must already be experienced in multimedia reporting. They spend 3-4 days in intensive focus on timely topics such as immigration, business, environment, entertainment, politics and more.
